Draw Anime Characters Tutorial – This tutorial explains how to draw female anime-style characters and manga styles using eight famous archetypes with three examples.
As the name implies, this lesson is about “character.” It shows you how to take an anime or manga style face and adjust its features and features to give a unique personalized look. It also suggests some hairstyles that may be suitable for each character type.
The types of archetypes included are:
- Ordinary Girl
- Opponent / Corrupt
- Tsundere
- Yandere
- Shy Girl
- Tough Girl
- Imbuka
- Bookworm
Face Characteristics of Anime Character
The diagram estimates of the basic characters used in this study are shown above. If you’ve seen some of the lessons here on AnimeOutline, you probably already know them.
Otherwise, the ratings are as follows:
- Eyes – draw a horizontal line directly in the middle of the head and draw the eyes below that line (so far as you can put another eye in between)
- Ears – make a second horizontal line between the middle line and the chin and draw the ears between the two lines.
- Nose – above the line used below the ears
- Mouth – draw a line between the bottom of the ears/nose line to find the location of the lower lip (which is not drawn in the picture) and draw the mouth just above that.
You can draw eyebrows and eyelashes slightly above the eyes.
Please keep in mind that the size and shape of the facial features in the examples below will change based on the type of character and facial expression.
Also, note that these are only the recommended values for making a character look “anime.” Different anime styles can have different dimensions.
Basic Anime Character Shape
When drawing the outer shape of an anime face in the preview, it may be helpful to think of it as the construction of three basic shapes as shown above (circle, quadrilateral, and triangle).
Anime Character Face Drawing Step By Step
To draw any characters in this tutorial, you can use the steps in the picture above.
- Draw the basic shape of the head (and the shoulders of the neck in this), starting with a straight line to help you make sure both halves are equal.
- It features facial features as described earlier, including the hidden parts of the hair (you can specify the hair follicles when completely hidden if you like)
- Draw hair (move to other facial features if needed)
- Wipe the hidden parts of the face with hair, and if you like, apply shading or color
Drawing Anime Character “Normal Girl.”
The character of a “normal girl” can be a “childhood friend” or a “main girl” in a story. In anime and manga, they tend to be friendly and down-to-earth.
Normal long hair may be a good fit for a “normal girl.”
To draw the character of the “normal girl” in how she speaks, draw well-opened eyes and large flowers/students. This will make the character look friendly.
You can paint your mouth with a simple smile (bend slightly upwards).
Draw eyebrows in their natural state with smooth curves.
Drawing the smiling Anime “Ordinary Girl.”
Smiling is one of the most common expressions of this type of character.
With a smile on your face, draw the eyes a little smaller, lower the curves of the lower eyelids from their normal position, and draw the mouth slightly wider.
Drawing Anime “Normal Girl” Fun
A happy face is another unusual expression for a “normal girl” character.
On a happy face, you can paint it like a smiling face but draw a slightly open mouth to show the whiteness of the teeth and add something just below the eyes.
Drawing a Cruel Opponent / Character
The main protagonist or character is usually in direct conflict with the main character—a bad character with a few negative traits.
To draw an unfriendly-looking anime character like this example, draw eyebrows and irises slowly with the upper eyelids covering the beautiful part of the eye.
Do not add any shadows over the irises (her will give the villain a “look” kind of look). Also, draw a few key points from the eyes and make them small enough to make them look a little slower.
Draw the lower eyelids and mouth on the sloping (bottom) curves.
Lay your eyebrows on the floor “in the shape of a wave” to get some slow-moving crust.
You can use what is commonly called “Hime Cut” hair. As “Hime” refers to a princess who is associated with an appearance like the one above, it can emphasize the idea of a dry or rotten character.
Drawing Anime Villain Looks Crazy Character
To give the character of the anime “villain” a crazy or crazy look, they sometimes have painted irises and eyebrows too small to have white space around them.
Draw lower eyebrows with shape-like waves as in the previous example, but their inner ends are slightly raised and facing upwards. And do not add any shadows to irises and draw only one set of displays.
Draw a mouth and teeth showing a wide smile.

Drawing Tsundere Anime Character
A character may be hostile at times for those who do not know tsundere, but it is good. These characters often have a hard time expressing their true feelings and are embarrassed when they do.
For a normal tsundere expression, you can draw her in the same way as you would a “normal girl.”
Some small tweaks you can do to draw the upper eyelids slightly lower and then draw a small lip to give him a small smile.
You can also draw irises with students younger than a “normal girl. This will make her look a little more casual.
Pigtails can be a beautiful tsundere hairstyle to give the character a close/immature look.
Drawing Angry Anime Tsundere Character
To irritate (and look a little embarrassed), draw eyes wide and eyebrows with their inner ends lowered.
Draw a curved lip.
Finally, show a frown on the cheeks with small thin lines.
Drawing a Shame Character for Anime Tsundere
As already mentioned, the ” tsundere ” character is often shy when expressing his true feelings, so this can be a common expression for them.
To get a shy “tsundere” face, draw sharp eyes and face down. Draw a wide horizontal mouth, and the bottom ends wider than the top. And remember that when the mouth is open, you should draw the jaw down slightly.
Draw eyebrows on the floor.
Yandere Anime Character Drawing
Yandere is a distortion of the tsundere—a kind and friendly character but can be hostile. Extreme versions of this character can be crazy.
With a typical yandere face, you can paint it the same way as you would a “normal girl” with big eyes and a friendly expression.
You could also give her long, dirty hair to show that there may be something “closed” about her.
Drawing “Cold Stare” Anime Yandere Character
The “cold” face is what the yandere character often does when his true colors come out. It usually refers to a female rival but can be for anyone who is “offended.”
For this type of face, apply lightly pressed eyes and lower eyelids instead of their usual treatment. Draw the pupils’ eyes very small about the iris without the shadow and the slightest reflection.
Draw the inner ends of the raised eyebrows and then draw the mouth slightly open, lift the upper lip, and expose some teeth.
Drawing A Fine-Looking Anime Yandere Character
These crazy faces are the ones she usually makes for someone she is obsessed with.
For a crazy expression, draw eyes slightly wider than normal with small irises/readers / bright and no shadows.
Draw eyebrows in vertical curves (from their normal position) and lift the inner sides of the eyebrows.
Draw an open mouth (not too wide). Remember to draw the chin down slightly to open the mouth.
Drawing Shame Anime Character
These characters are usually nice and harmless but may be lonely for fear of talking to others.
Beautiful hair of this type of character can be “hair over one eye” to strengthen the sense of “hide” and shame. But in case you want to draw a different hairstyle, both eyes are shown in the example below.
You can draw this character in the same way as a “normal girl” but with irises / younger readers to give her a more “scary” look.
Drawing Daydreaming Shy Anime Character
Since “shy” actors are often lonely, they dream of being alone.
To get a dream shape, draw the eye/eyes on one side of the face on both the upper and lower eyelids slightly raised. You can also draw slightly raised eyebrows.
Draw a smiley face and pointed teeth and add something under the eyes.
Drawing A Shame Anime Character With The Wrong Look
When interacting with other characters, the shy characters often avoid looking into the eyes and looking down. They may also have a slight smile.
For the worst-case scenario, draw the eye/eyes down as mentioned above, and the lower part of the iris slightly covered the lower eyelid. Leave a small space between the iris and the upper eyelid.
Drawing a Strong Anime Character
These are usually good characters who can help protect the main character but sometimes beat them around. And they often belong to some martial arts or “kendo” and may quarrel.
A ponytail can be a common occurrence for these characters as it can give them that “sporty” as athletes tend to tie their hair back so as not to get in the way.
To get a strong character, draw the eyes with the upper eyelids down and the lower eyelids slightly raised. Draw eyebrows with inner edges lowered.
Draw the mouth into a very simple downward curve.
Drawing Angry Tough Anime Character
Anime or “girl” characters often have emotions and easily get angry.
With an angry face, paint your eyes brighter than usual and your eyebrows down.
Draw the mouth open and be fairly wide (horizontally) at the bottom, slightly wider than the top.
You can also give him medical tape on his cheek to reinforce the concept of his “active” character (exercise or fighting).
Drawing Strong Anime Character Fun
As already noted, these types of characters can be emotionally and emotionally pleasurable.
For a happy face/content, draw the eyes of “strong” girls completely closed—basically a set of curved eyebrows. Draw the eyebrows slightly flatter than usual (below the curve).

Drawing Anime Bookworm Character

Move the mouth closer to the “round square” shape (slightly wider at the bottom).
Drawing an Awesome Bookworm Anime Character
A “bookworm” can be embarrassing at times, especially for a loved one.
To get a shy “bookworm” face, draw eyes as usual with raised eyebrows in the middle of the face.
Paint the mouth with a simple smile and add green to the cheeks.
