How to Draw a Chibi Anime Character Step by Step

Draw a Chibi Anime Character – This tutorial shows you how to draw a female anime character, “Chibi,” with a big head and a small body. Provides suggestions for body measurements and placement of facial features.

Chibi anime characters have high-style heads and slim bodies. These characters can be great for making quick storyboards and simple manga or animations as they can be drawn quickly and then become authentic and detailed characters.

Because of their big heads, they also look beautiful by showing different emotions.

Please note that if you follow using pencil and paper, you should make simple lines for the first stages of the drawing as you will need to erase something during the different stages of learning.

Step 1 – Establish Body Standards

Please note that body measurements in the example above are just a suggestion as there is no established way to draw lake bodies. Some may have large heads as big as the body, and some may be close to regular anime characters.

To follow this example, draw a character’s body as long as one and a half heads. Draw the torso legs evenly so that it fits.

The hands and feet of the lake characters can often be drawn without showing individual toes or fingers.

In this style, draw the thumb without the details of the fingers (as if the character is wearing mittens).

Step 2 – Draw Face

Please note that these measurements (such as physical ones) are only suggestions.

As is often the case with lake characters, you can avoid drawing the nose together.

Please also note that although the ears are provided as a reference, they will cover the hair in the latest stages of instruction.

Step 3 – Draw Hair

As the lake heads are usually large, the lake hair can still be painted with many details.

With hair like the example above, draw the upper part of the hair following the shape of the head and come out into dense bumps towards the end.

Wipe the covered parts of the hair after you are done. You can leave eyebrows and other facial features (if you want to paint a different hairstyle) overcoated, as this is common in these characters.

Step 4 – Draw Clothes

Like the bodies of the lake, the clothes of the lake are often simplified (painted with small details and a few folds or folds).

In this case, the character will be wearing a school uniform. Draw the upper part of the garment and the shoes and socks to fit the body shape with the sleeves and skirt facing down.

Step 5 – Line Drawing Completed

Complete the line drawing by adding a few details.

Face students, face masks, eyebrows and eyelashes, and other greens on the cheeks. The area is usually black due to eye shadows and the appearance of black eyebrows. You can also draw a pair of straight lines to show the upper part of the eye (which will be much darker).

On the goods just put the buttons.

Step 6 – Applying Color & Shading

Start by filling in each area with the correct color. When coloring the paper, make sure you leave the reflections on the eyes, hair, and buttons white if digital coloring is added at the end.

Then you will want the shade as follows:

Dark neck

  • Add eye shadows (from hair)
  • Apply shade to legs (create skirt)
  • Add small shadows to the hands from the sleeves.
  • Darker the top of the irises of the eyes
  • Add minimal shadows over the white areas of the eyes (from eyelashes)

You can darken the whole area on the neck so that the remaining shadows are drawn almost to the object’s shape (hair/skirt/sleeves/eyelashes). By darkening the eyes’ surface, you can use the line from the previous step to distinguish the dark and light parts.

Conclusion

There are many variations in the shape and size of the lake characters. This tutorial provides one example of how to draw such a character, but you can always try and adjust or completely change the dimensions to see what you are getting.
