Most of us think we can’t draw, and we never try. However, drawing is a skill, like many others, that can be learned. This article will examine why drawing is so difficult for some of us and how we can begin to learn how to draw.

My friend Jenny phoned me the other day and said she was very shy.

“Why are you shy?” I asked Jenny.

“Yes,” she replied, “my children are in the drawing class, and they wanted me to show them how to draw certain cartoon characters. The problem is that I have no natural ability to draw and I have never been able to do it. Now how can I help my children with their drawing in the world?”

Jenny’s problem is not unique. Like many parents, we are bombarded with questions about our children and the problem of how we can answer them, and we fear that all our knowledge as parents may be questionable.

But, like many skilled craftsmen, the art of painting is often one of the most difficult subjects to learn. In fact, most people come out of the womb with a certain talent for painting. We should all read it. I have many pianists who once thought they did not have the ability to play the piano. Similarly, the art of drawing can be overcome with real study and a lot of practice.

So, Where Can We Start This Painting Process?

Here’s how I would like to deal with this. Let’s say, as, in Jenny’s case, we want to draw a cartoon character. Like many of you, I am not a person with a natural ability to draw. However, I did work on it, and one of the first steps I took was to draw cartoons.

Instead of doing any studies first, I looked at the picture of the bedbug rabbit and tried to draw the insect rabbit naturally. To say that my painting looks ridiculous is an understatement. It was incomplete.

However, this provided a basis on which I could see rapid progress. Then I went online and looked for tips and videos that I could use to improve my drawing. Finally, I met someone who showed me how to draw a bed bug.

Then I sat down with these new paintings in my mind. My second version of bugs bunny has been a significant improvement over the first. When you look at it, you can also say that I have a natural ability to draw.

The Behavior of the Story: Even if you think you can’t learn to draw because you don’t have a natural ability, it is a skill that can be learned, and you can become proficient in it.

Creating a quick touch with ink helps me focus on the process rather than the finished result. The touch technique of painting is very much related to emotions and allows me to draw naturally. Drawing in this unusual way gives me a space to research the topic out of curiosity and without expecting what the finished painting should look like.

Responding with a simple line to the momentum that first interested me in the topic is one of the most exciting things to draw for myself. Satisfying first curiosity with an open mind, relaxedly – by just drawing clearly without following specific rules already read – is often referred to as “relaxation.”

Drawing or sketching is a way of knowing your subject, researching, and just being there by looking at its features and responding to it with a mark on a piece of paper, a line. Both lines create a boundary between areas and connect them. The Contour line clarifies and informs our brain where the object ends.

By adding a line to my paper, I feel I explain both the differences between me and the subject of the painting, and I connect with it.

By drawing quickly and relying on my instincts to put the lines in a touch-up, I hope to capture the most critical information, the essence of my topic. I set aside time for short drawing sessions (from 1-minute line drawer to 10-minute lessons), minimizing the choice of what matters most – registering first, then communicating, and in what ways.

There are only so many marks and details one can put on paper in such a short time.

Choice of ink adds limits. The permanent ink element makes me consider each decision carefully, knowing that I will not be able to remove it.

Interestingly, I made fewer mistakes when painting with ink than when I used an easily adjustable tool such as a pencil or coil.

Drawing naturally allows my hand and mind to get lost in the mysterious world of shapes and angles instead of thinking cleverly about my invention. And the flexible, clear line conveys more information, like movement emotions. It can also create intense interest and bring the viewer’s attention to a particular part of the painting.

Another way to keep the line exciting and alive is to try different ways of holding the pen and starting your movements from your elbow or shoulder. That way, energy comes out of your body, and the paint marks appear liquid and alive. Changing pen pressure and positioning and marking method adds a unique flaw to the final image.

I like the small requirements for drawing an ink pen – all I need is paper and an ink pen. There is always something around it that can be drawn.

I like to use Muji-type gel pens and Micron and Rotring ink pens of various sizes. I have a small 6 x 8-inch drawing book (Muji) that I like to carry with me, but I use a large 9 x 12-inch format of Canson and Strathmore drawing pads to paint in my studio. A standard printed copy paper is a beautiful and inexpensive piece of paper that I can check out and not bother to throw away later.

Find out what works for you – what size is light enough to carry, and which drawing tool does not need to be set extra? In my experience, if it is difficult to use or needs to be repaired or cleaned afterwards, there is a good chance I will stop messing with you.

Try different things; find a pen or pencil of your choice. Change your preferences regularly, too – you might be surprised at how different your work is depending on the drawing materials you use. A challenging tool or size may eventually develop into a whole new art concept or direction.

Draw a drag! I feel that my paintings are much better when I am interested in my subject and feel happy to draw them. Naturally, my interests change based on each case. It’s usually something that draws me because it’s in front of my eyes, like animal paintings.

I drew chickens and horses on a nearby farm during a family vacation. Chickens were fun to watch, with head movements such as robots, hops and random runs, the difference between flying feathers and sharp nails and beaks.

Doves always look funny to me. I am not a big fan of birds seen nearby, with their beaded eyes and tiny, scaly feet. Don’t they look like miniature dinosaurs? But pigeons (from far away) are funny and full of personality, and I often draw them in parks.

My two cats sitting lazily on a hot and humid summer day gave an excellent painting theme – they did not change their shape immediately and were happy to keep me working on our front porch.

Drawing People:

For no reason, people are the favourite and most popular topic for many artists. Naturally, we feel drawn to our human nature both as artists and spectators, including myself.

Family members, friends, random coffee shoppers – no one is safe here. And let’s not forget the gift of professional models – giving us artists endless hours of standing, holding still faces and tight muscles. The nudity, in particular, is an appropriate lesson for practising drawing and further developing the understanding of the human body.

Standing tall is one of my personal preferences, trying to capture someone else’s personality, feelings and personal issues.

And not just the face. The hands are full of emotion and reveal much knowledge about body touch and movement.

In all parts of the body, the hands are often considered very hard to draw. Indeed, their intricate design and seemingly infinite positions and touches can sometimes feel frustrating. The only way to master hand drawing is to understand it, and the only way to understand it is to learn both anatomy and hand tools and practise drawing and painting.

Many resources are available in print and online for you to read, including books written by Bridgeman and Loomis, Proko, and the Line of Action websites. Copying well-crafted hands (drawings and sketches of great artists) and drawing pictures is a well-tested and beautiful way to learn.

I prefer drawing from life, and if I do not have a model available, I use my hand (left) to quickly read or take my pictures and later use them as drawing tools.

Procedure: Hand Study on Ink

There are different methods and schools for handicrafts. Getting started is very important. My choice of how I will start a particular drawing is somewhat rash and related to what I find to be very important or different for this team.

Sometimes I will start by pointing to a “line of action” and then put down a line or lines that indicate a general action or direction. Drawing a basic shape or shape beginning with a petite frame helps plan a complex design.

Mathematically, it is helpful to mark the base of the skeletal system first – the skull, spine, shoulder, and hip axis. I can start by marking a significant dark for objects with a solid bright light.

In this particular area of the hand, I like the soft line that falls on the wrist and how the hand hangs in the air so that I will start with that outer edge from the top to the bottom of the finger.

When I make that line, I focus my eyes on the story instead of my paper. I follow the movement of my eyes and the movement of my pen. Paul Klee says, “Drawing is just a moving line.”

How to make an invisible drawing + checklist – includes ideas and tips, visual examples, video, and a free checklist!

On Instagram, where I shared a lot behind the scenes and processes, someone recently asked me about my ‘secrets’ when it came to how to make an invisible drawing.

First of all, I got that kind of humour because until recently, I hadn’t ‘found’ or enjoyed making invisible art. I firmly attached one foot to the image, even though I was very lost in the fabric.

I took two abstract drawing lessons, and while I loved both, I never thought it was for me.

Second, I suddenly realized that my work had recently become a thing of the past. It started with coastal areas and gradually became more and more fragmented, to the point where I now ‘almost have a few invisible images’ and several completely invisible paintings. I did not choose the wrong one – until I thought I did not like it and could not do it – it just started happening.

Meet Me at a Wildlife Sanctuary

Here is the ‘almost invisible’ I just finished; I still remember the dune drawings I did earlier this year, but I look at an unfamiliar place with unusual and exciting marks.

The question made me think; HOW do you make an invisible drawing? Naturally, that is partly under the watchful eye, but for me, some things make an invisible painting feel very successful.

So I thought I’d share what I suggested to Michele, who asked the question, and add to it a little bit as it might help you.

Use a reference image.

This may sound silly, but having a particular place of origin helps me, especially as someone from a representative background.

I don’t use one all the time, but sometimes I like to have one of my photos to post or something I found on Pinterest {from this board}, so I have a guide to follow based on an existing layout. It works.

It’s usually part of the foundation, and it doesn’t matter what the image’s title is; I usually leave a reference immediately after starting. It just helps to get things going.

Have a Focus

It doesn’t have to be anything, but having a place for the eye to start or end as it wanders the sails helps the painting ‘make sense’ and feel good looking at it. You usually want the focus not on the centre, for the same reason.

In this case, a large white loop at the top works to draw the eye ‘on the road’ in the lower part toward the horizon. It is not the focus of your face but helps the eye movement, which is what the eye wants to do!

Always pay attention to prices.

Although there are abbreviations with a small amount of excellent value, that is not something I have read well. It’s a bit difficult because you have very little to work with, so you need a lot of confidence and practice. {Don’t let that stop you from leaving!}

A limited list of values can make a drawing feel shallow and have nothing meaningful to say. It can also confuse the viewer if there is not enough way for the eye to follow it, but it is hidden.

I like to start with a lot of darkness and gradually remove it. Adding and subtracting is one of the easiest and most forgiving ways to build a drawing because it just keeps going until things start to work together.

Discovery

Here is a solid diagonal diagram with simple numbers in the upper part and dark numbers, ‘concentrating’ at the bottom.

Keep turning it to check the balance.

This is practical advice for any drawing; the more you do it, the easier it is to see what is wrong quickly. Balance does not mean that everything is the same or that it looks the same – that is not pleasing to the eye and strangely often means wrong – it means that all parts of the drawing work together and within the framework of the four edges.

Check your edges!

The edges are as crucial to the success of the painting as they are to the interior. They can help stabilize the drawing, create a fun balance, or suggest continuing ‘off stage’. Keep an eye on them as you paint, and do not let your focus get lost in the middle.

Notice that in this case, a few poles come in from the right, and the left grass disappears along the edge. It wouldn’t look right if I didn’t have something to touch the edges. {Try to block them with your fingers – you’ll see what I mean!}

Change Your Marks

Marks are interesting. They ‘talk’ to each other so that everyone who does it participates in the conversation. It is up to you to create a consistent or unrelated conversation, but ‘readable’ by the viewer, even though no two people will read it in the same way. {Art is full of paradox!}

I like to push myself to make as many types of marks as I can while working; it is surprisingly tricky because we fall into patterns and habits. For example, I have a deep love for and continuous practice of making straight marks, so I have to be careful to measure that with more horizontal than I think I can do. It’s so fun to have that challenge running as I paint – it keeps me standing on my toes!

Here is a test for my recent marks in Touchstone. There is no reference image, but that ‘path’ appears again! And quite a few vertical. 🙂

Use Your Emotions

The title can be pure feelings because invisible art does not have a visible theme. I recently did a painting while drinking wine and dancing, and I was in a perfect mood when I did. {Wine! Limited art offerings!}. Here is the diagram that caused:

It’s a mess, and I’ve been a little quieter, but you can see and feel the excitement I felt when I painted it. So pass on what you hear and let it know your drawing! This can be very cathartic too.

Be Sensible

The thing I have been playing with a lot lately is the idea of drawing ‘weather’. That does not paint the blue sky or the rain, but the feeling of the weather, especially the wind. I’m not sure why – the wind is my favourite weather – but often when I paint, I think about the wind and how it ‘looks’. It helps to keep the drawings solid and alive.

You may choose a less violent idea! No matter what it is, it only encourages you and helps you stay focused. Switching from one concept to another can lead to confusing and confusing drawings.

Could You Keep It Simple {Your Way, Not Drawing?}

As a basic rule of thumb, diversity and comparison will help make a drawing enjoyable, especially if you are a bit noob and don’t feel very confident about what you are doing! I like paintings with a lot of darkness and lights and a sense of dynamic movement.

Material Need To Start Drawing – The tools you need to start drawing are simple: a marking tool and paper to make. Pencils and paper are the first things for most people.

As you grow older as an artist, you will soon find that you want to try different techniques and innovations. Despite many technological advances, the art of the artists has changed little over the centuries. Today, most building materials are easy to use and have a wide range of colors available, but in reality, the way we use them remains the same.

Fortunately, many paintings are inexpensive and can produce many drawings before they need to be replaced. It is recommended that you avoid unnecessary expenditures and disappointments, buying in moderation at the beginning. Start attractively and gradually get into the others as you feel the need to expand your scope and refine your path.

Graphite Pencils

The “lead” pencil is familiar to everyone. However, it is not made and has never been made of lead but with graphite, a type of carbon mixed with clay and baked. Graphite pencils are sharpened using a sharp-edged knife than with a sharpened pencil sharpener. They are arranged from solid (H) to soft (B). 9H is heavier while 9B is softer has F (which is finer) and HB in the medium range. H-pencils (2H, 3H, and 4K; increasingly difficult) are suitable for clear, bright lines, but they will scratch over your paper, so B pencils are better for soft, tone work.

Each pencil level will only produce a given dark tone, and no amount of pressure will darken that tone.

If you need a darker tone, you will need to switch to a softer pencil level. Soft pencils will give a more excellent range of tones than intense pencils and can be erased without leaving an indent if you make a mistake. For this reason, many drawings are made using HB or soft pencil.

 Point to use 2B or 3B to start your drawing and switch to a soft — or black — pencil-like 6B or 9B for deeper tones.

Most machine pencils, also known as clutch or scroll pencils, are ideal for specific tasks, but soft marks are not easy to obtain.

Pastel Pencils

Pastel pencils are made of solid pastel thread protected from a wooden barrel. Avoid dropping them as the soft pigment fiber breaks easily. These pencils are stronger than soft pastels and look like colored pencils, though with a scratchier, chalkier feel. They are ideal for detailed line work and shading, as they are not waxy and can be well integrated.

The marker made of pastel pencil is not permanent and will need to be sprayed with fixative (see more about fixes below). These pencils are very easy to work with. There are a variety of solid colors available. They are perfect for finished and quick and effective drawings, especially on colored paper.

Colored Pencils

Colored pencils are the same color as graphite pencils. The pigment is mixed with clay filler and binder. Wax is added to act as a lubricant and help the pencil smooth through the paper.

These are available in many colors and varieties, typical, water-soluble, dense and low in lead, and vary in quality and softness. Unlike pastel pencils, coloured pencils do not need to be sprayed with a fixative. Some coloured pencils form sharp, precise lines, while others are soft and can be easily assembled. Background colours will produce different shades, and unexpected results can be achieved by using the same group of colours in different sequences, so it is worth finding the best arrangement for a particular shade.

Conté Sticks, Crayons, and Pencils

Conte sticks, crayons, and pencils are natural colours bound with gum in Arabic. Conte sticks (also known as carré sticks) and hard chalks or pastels are ready to make colourful designs. Popular colours are earthy — white, black, grey, brown, and rust, such as cheerful (reddish-brown) and sepia — but they are also available in many other colours. They work very well on coloured paper and can be used with other dry painting media. While pencils are very suitable for line work, sticks can be used to block large areas of tone. They can be broken and mixed but not easily erased.

A wide range of conté pencils is available in traditional colors black, white, sepia, sanguine, terra-cotta, and bistre (brownish-grey). Artist pencils are similar to traditional graphite pencils but are also available with a rectangular profile. Some pencils have a wax content that allows them to be used without fixing, but some pencils have chalkier and will need repair protection.

Coal Sticks and Pencils

These burns are also one of the oldest paintings in the world. Made of carbonized wood (usually willow, but beech and grape can also be found), the sticks are classified as soft or hard and come in four strengths: small, medium, thick, and thick. (Extremely thick sticks are also known as “charcoal painters.”) Tiny sticks work best in making fur, feathers, and other fine details, while blockbusters work best in large areas.

Pressed charcoal, also known as Siberian coal, is made of a pencil with wooden or folded paper barrels and is cleaner to use than traditional stick charcoal. It is arranged in hardness and density and can be obtained in the round and square profiles. They produce black, sharp lines, which are difficult to mix or match.

Sharpen all the coals using a sharp work knife or using fine-quality sandpaper. Coal dust stays well in the support area and will need to be repaired to avoid contamination.

Graphite Sticks

 

Graphite sticks are a popular alternative to traditional pencils. They do not have a wooden casing found in pencils and are a thick version of the centerline graphite line or pencil. Available in HB, 3B, 6B, and 9B grades, they have a few advantages over conventional wood pencils. The shape of the drum is round, and some types are covered with a thin layer of plastic paint that is removed using a stick, which helps keep the fingers clean.

The shape of the rod means that as the rod sharpens a large area of graphite, it remains exposed. This makes it possible to create fine lines — which can be made thicker by changing the angle at which you say it meets the support — and broader areas of flat tone. Like pencils, they are perfect for drawing and assembling.

Short, thick, hexagonal sticks are also available at the same distance as small rectangular blocks. Both sticks are best sharpened using a pencil sharpener or fine-grained sandpaper. The resulting powder can be applied to drawings to create tone areas. Most dust can be purchased at art stores.

Like traditional pencils, barrel-shaped barrels can hold thin, soft-grade graphite strips. When using very soft, thin graphite sticks, be careful when pressing hard as it breaks easily.

White Chalk

This is available as a solid stick for details and fine marks or as a soft pastel that can be easily blended.

Pens

An extensive list of pen options is available — so much so that it may seem overwhelming. The technical pens are ready to be used for quick drawings, but their nibs make constant marks. Fountain or cartridge pens, roller-ball, ballpoint, fineliner, and professional art pens come in various nibs and can be used for both quick and detailed drawings. Ballpoint pens can be smooth, satisfying, and ready to draw. All pens can create beautiful, flowing lines with smooth and subtle effects.

Although there are many types of pens, many have the identical drawback — the size or width of the line from the pen is adjusted. It is essential if you use these maps to check to find out what is possible or not. The pens bring precise marks, and the tone is found only in a specific type of stimulation or stimulation. Some pens, however, use water-soluble ink, making it possible to remove the tone of linework by using water. Pens using water-soluble ink are handy as it is possible to re-wet areas to brighten up linework and remove tone areas.

Immersion Brushes and Pens

The traditional tool for brushing ink. For use ink or watercolor baths, high-quality sable brushes are best. They carry a large amount of fluid and, if cared for, retain their points well.

Dip pens have a flexible grip, which adapts to metal conditions. Some nibs are only the size of specific barrels, so try before you buy. Sometimes you may find that a new nib is reluctant to hold the ink, but rubbing a small amount of saliva on the nib can solve this. Sharp nibs are ideal for drawing, although square, sharp, and circular nibs can produce pleasing effects.

Other forms of steel nib are quill for traditional feathers, bamboo pen, and reed pen. Pens made of goose feathers are fun to use and provide a sensitive and audible line (although you will need to cut them repeatedly). Pens determined by the length of the bamboo will vary in size and size; they are solid and suitable for writing work. Reed pens are the same but cut nib breaks and tend to break; they are easily cut with a sharp knife.

Ink

Painting inks, available in various colours, do not penetrate water or dissolve in water. Water-soluble inks are not as widely available as waterproof ink. Both inks can be mixed with water to form tones, but while waterproof ink will dry and change, the water-soluble ink can be rehydrated and recycled. Water-soluble inks enable the artist to soften line work.

Probably the most famous ink of India. When rinsed with water, this black ink is Chinese and becomes a warm, deep sepia colour. It does not get wet and dries quickly.

Rubber and Stumps

The rubber helps debug or merge. Putty erasers, also known as erasers, are soft and soft. They can be created to clear specific areas and to “highlight” highlights in heavy areas of tones. The disadvantages of using putty erasers are that they get dirty quickly when used with coal, soft graphite, or carré sticks.

Sturdy plastics or vinyl erasers take on light colours and remain clean. They can be used on their edges to form clear lines carved in deep tone areas; alternatively, they use sharp corners to make patterns and define texture. They also remove stubborn pencil marks or graphs and minor errors. Care should be taken when using solid erasers not to compress the support area.

To combine charcoal, chalk, and pastel pencils, you may want to use a paper stump called torchon or tortillon. This material is used to polish and blend a thin pigment, pushed inwards, and folded over the top of the paper. As the stump gets dirty, it can be cleaned by rubbing it with fine sandpaper.

It Fixes

Fixative is a soluble substance in a colourless air solvent. Prevents paintings made with pencils, charcoal, or other soft coloured materials from contamination. When sprayed on the paint, the air solvent evaporates and leaves a thin layer, which binds the pigment dust to the base. Once fixed, even the rubber can not change the drawing. However, it is possible to work on a planned drawing, and it is common practice to adjust the drawing from time to time during the process. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, the fixative is best applied using a free CFC aerosol. Bottles with hand spray and mouth-spray diffuser are available.

Papers and Foundations

Specific papers work better with certain media, so it pays to match drawing and support tools. There are three different areas of the paper.

As the name implies, Rough is a paper with holes, a very written space. Ideal for bright, precise work using charcoal, chalk, pastel pencils, and soft graphite.

 

Paper with a very smooth surface is known as a “hot compressor” because, in the process, the pulp sheet is passed through hot metal rollers. These papers are very suitable for pen and ink work, painting drawings, and good pencil work and are less satisfying when used with soft-coloured drawing tools such as coal and chalk. This is because pigment dust needs a textured area to attach to it.

The papers with the middle text are known as “cold compression” or “NO” (meaning not hot press). The papers in this group work well with most drawing materials and are probably the most widely used type of paper.

High-quality paper often called “acid-free,” is reduced to acid resistance and will not turn brown or brown. Cartridge (standard drawing) paper is a type of paper that is often used for drawing. It can be white, cream, or even colour available in various weights, sizes, and attributes. Watercolour paper is available in various weights and is suitable for all types of painting.

Pastel paper comes in various tints and has a “tooth” or grain designed to capture and capture small particles of colour. Instead of using drawing pins to secure the paper to the board, plant a few pieces of board loaded with spring. You can buy a deliberately designed drawing board at a good art store or use a sheet of plywood or MDF (medium-density fiberboard).

If you are using sketchbooks or paper-protected paper, it is unnecessary to have an easel. However, if you find yourself working hard in areas where it is difficult to find a place to relax the board, you may find it beneficial to invest in a portable painting easel. Easels come in many sizes, so choose one that you can sit on or stand on freely. Some easels are folded into a drawing case. The most important consideration here is stability. The easel should be strong enough to hold your drawing board and take the pressure and weight you put in as you work. A practical option is an adjustable table easel or a lightweight painting easel.

  1. Break the Straight Line

Your problem: you can’t draw a straight line / complete circle.

Step 1

Drawing a straight line by hand is not valid. It is only available in vector as the shortest path between the two points. You can cheat and use a ruler, but your hand will probably not learn to draw a straight, long line even if it starts as complete; many mistakes are made if you draw it for a long time. What does it mean?

If drawing a long line is almost impossible, we can use short lines with our familiar hand. This way, it does not matter which tool you draw straight lines; they will usually come out very well. Just look at the picture below. When the lines are short, the image is closer to the original.

Step 2

Suppose you want to draw a flower like the one below. It is built with a straight line, a perfect circle, and a few curves with sharp angles. I think you can draw it very slowly, carefully, driving the lines from one point to the other, your tongue sticking out and sweating on your face. But why? Drawing is not a job; it should be fun!

Step 3

Technical drawing (straight lines, complete circles) needs focus. It is about drawing things as they are. There is no space for design or personal style, as style comes from variety. Is that really what you want to do? Draw the same objects all the time?

If you do, there is no lesson for you. Because drawing — creation — is about keeping your hand free while focusing on the result instead of creating a series of complete lines. Here’s what you need to learn — how to keep it simple, draw quickly and carelessly.

Let’s try to draw this flower again, right? But in this case, follow these simple rules:

  • Divide long lines into short ones.
  • When more curves are added, the lines become shorter.
  • Touch the paper very slowly; do not press too hard on your pencil.
  • Keep it fast!

Step 4

Wouldn’t that be fun? When you lower your eyes, it looks like it was done. Now, fill in the blanks between the lines with the missing one. The rules for the previous step are still valid.

Step 5

You can now highlight lines with a marker or by pressing a pencil. This step is not necessary; you can skip it.

Step 6

It happened! It doesn’t look exactly like the original, but you can see a particular style, part of your personality, the real work of your hands! You may notice that it looks more natural than it did at first because nature is not perfect. Most importantly, you can easily change everything once you cross the line!

Ironically, when your straight-line drawing is less accurate, the results become more natural.

Step 7

Now that you have learned to draw a straight line, what should you practice?

  • Divide the lines into shorter ones.
  • Draw circles made of short lines instead of long, continuously curved.
  • Draw a little bit — in this way; your small mistakes will not appear.

How To Create Your Art Style

Your problem: you feel like you can only draw things that other people have already created. Your drawings do not look like they are yours. If that is true of you, it’s time to learn to make your art style.

Step 1

To be able to draw circles with straight lines, right? That’s not good. You may be stuck with mathematics and graphic design rules — suitable for duplication but not creative. How can you help yourself? However, the first step in this study is good for you, but there is another tactic you can use.

As I said before, style comes in a variety of styles. If you carefully re-draw a picture, line by line, without adding anything new (because it could be a mistake!), You can’t end up with something different. The real one wasn’t yours, and your drawing is just a copy. I’m not saying you don’t follow the tutorial; you just have to be more discriminating with the help you render toward other people.

How can you lose a little bit of logical accuracy? Start with this simple task: draw a few simple situations with your hand moving, as if you are feeling nervous. Make it until you feel your hand free.

Step 2

Let’s try this simple lesson now. Do this in the same way as usual, but in Step 4, shake your hand as you draw the last lines. Draw a few of these heads, changing the level of motion constantly.

Step 3

Are you surprised? The whole head looks different from the original, but you can see who you just drew. Also, use the exact measurements for all of them, yet none of them looks the same. How was that possible?

While you were learning to write, your teacher wanted you to repeat the lines from the template. You spend a lot of time drawing (not writing) every character as if it were a minor masterpiece. Then, with time and knowledge, you build your writing character, your style. Your letters look different from mine or your friend’s, but still, we can all read what you wrote. Your style changed because you wanted to write faster — to write down your thoughts, not draw the perfect characters but make sense.

Apply this rule to your drawings. Think about what you want to achieve, not the lines. Draw quickly, and your personal, unique hand movements will have a chance to shine.

Step 4

There is something else that adds to your style: ingenuity. Do the same tutorial again, this time changing the effects of the action to your needs. You learn to draw a dragon’s head, but what if the dragons in your brain have long beaks? No problem! If you cannot get the right pitch, you do not want to be frustrated, so invest in a good capo. Just adjust the rules according to your needs.

Step 5

Okay, now you know how to make your art style. What’s next for you to get used to?

  1. Try to draw things in your place with moving, indifferent lines without worrying about the effect.
  2. Sketch more! Don’t think of the effect; let your hand shape its natural movements.
  3. If you follow this tutorial, stay smart — change the length, shape, distance, and see where it takes you.

 How to Measure and Draw Ratings

Your problem: your ratings always look different. You feel like you can draw a given distance without using a ruler or other tools.

Step 1

Wrong ratings are a big problem for a budding artist. Fortunately, it can be overcome if you do not ignore it. First, what are the measurements?

Measurement is not a distance measured in a particular unit. They describe the location of a related object. If you want to paint the whole picture (set of elements) in duplicate, all the steps need to be duplicated.

Step 2

Let’s train our eyes to see and redraw the scales. First, try to repaint this image, but it is twice as small:

Step 3

Now, take the ruler and check if you got it right: the distance should be twice as short as the screen. Also, what is your outcome? Maybe not so good if you read this drawing measurement lesson. Note that circles must be twice as small, and that seems impossible: how to draw a double circle if you do not even know the actual size?

The answer is that we need at least two aspects to talk about relationships. No matter how significant the first element is, it cannot be unbalanced if there is only one! So let’s try again. Draw only the first circle.

Step 4

Now think of two lines from the centre of the circle. There is a third line of thought that connects both circles. Can you see what angle it is creating? Draw this line in your photo without adding a second circle for now.

If you have problems seeing the angle, try splitting the right angle into three and then every third one again. Each of them has 10 degrees.

Step 5

We need to set the distance now. How many circles can be placed between the two centres in the first one? Apply this relationship to your photo. It is good to have an actual print and draw some circles physically for the first time. Later, you can try pretending to draw them (you keep a pencil at the top of the paper/screen and see the circles in your mind).

Step 6

It’s almost over! Now we need to check the size of the second circle about the largest. An excellent way to do this is to think of a second circle within the first one so that you can see the proportions.

Step 7

Done! You can also use a ruler to see how accurate it is. This method is excellent if your eyes are not yet trained to see the scales, and in time you may no longer need to draw the features of the guide.

Step 8

You have done it! You have gone through all the steps to learn how to draw scales. To learn more, do the following:

Learn to see ratings everywhere. Look around and ask yourself: How tall are my fingers compared to the palm? How many heads can be placed in a row on my dog’s back? Which part of the face can fit best between the eyes? This training can be done during your leisure time, increasing your concentration. And, in time, your eyes will learn to do it without realizing it!

Do not avoid the practice if you have creative size problems (for example, you draw two identical circles, and they are always different). Draw these two circles as long as you can draw them, then try the same with triangles, squares, etc. This problem should be solved before taking another course, as it is the foundation of other skills.

The internet is full of simple, step-by-step lessons that do not teach fundamental drawing skills but are ready to practice equally well. Start with simple pictures of children and move on when you feel more confident. Also, do not go any further before developing these essential skills. No solid foundation can be built on a weak foundation.

Release Your Hand

Your problem: getting to draw parallel or similar lines is very difficult. The second line always goes the wrong way in some way.

Step 1

This sometimes happens when you try hard. You want to be accurate and, as a result, draw slowly and carefully, giving your hand a lot of time for mistakes. Try to draw both lines quickly: does it change something? If so, I’m glad I can help! If not, a little training may be required.

Drawing snakes is the most extensive and complex training I can think of. It allows you to practice the measurement, editing length, resize and angles, and, most importantly, teaches your hand how to move gracefully. If you read this section, you may have problems with snakes — they are thick at the same time, then thin and thick again, messy and unhealthy. But we can fix it!

Start with a row of circles, each smaller than its predecessor. Finish the line with one point.

Step 2

Connect the corresponding ends of the diameters. The simple snake made! Yes, there is still much to learn.

Step 3

Now draw a series of similar circles but also change their positions vertically.

Step 4

Connect them again.

Step 5

Let’s increase the level of difficulty. Do the same in the past, but now leave large spaces between circles.

Step 6

Connecting circles can be complex now, as you need to draw arches. This is an actual practice. Draw snakes, long and short, straight and curved, using large spaces in the centre of the circle whenever you see that you have got it right. If you do this long enough, your hand should learn to move correctly.

Step 7

What should you exercise?

  • Snakes! Draw many of them; they are fast and easy;
  • Draw a series of lines and parallel waves very quickly. Let your hand feel free!
  • Draw zigzag lines while watching TV or reading articles online. No matter what you draw, just teach your hand how to move freely and carelessly.

Learn What Things Are … And Why They Are

Your problem: you can’t draw from the imagination. Everything goes well if you follow the tutorial, but you can’t remember the steps, or there is one stop that appears OK.

Step 1

Although the best drawing exercises for beginners will not help you here, you will be happy to hear that this is not as big a problem as it seems. You just have to change your attitude. The problem is that you are learning to draw lines instead of what the object is. There are two types of information:

Matrix (raster): Where is the point? Where is it connected? What is the distance between them? How many of them happened somewhere?

Vector: What’s the point? What is the point of this? What does this set of points do? How do other elements affect them?

Matrix information is a template for creating the same thing again. It is hard to remember and only helpful in a few cases. Vector information is measurable. When conditions change (different shapes, sizes, styles), the elements conform to them because they adhere to standards, not location. Here is an example:

Matrix Dog Head Information

  • C1 – nose
  • C3 – iso
  • C1-E3 – mouth
  • A3-E5 – head (etc.)

Vector Dog Head Information

  • The head comprises two circles: the “brain case” and the mouth.
  • The mouth is slightly higher than the middle of the side of the brain.
  • The eye is circular and begins in the centre of the cerebral cortex, touching the mouth.
  • The nose is on the tip of the mouth and is as big as the eye (etc.).

If you would like to change something, for example, open mouth, matrix information fails. Fixed, measurable only in size, and useless if you want to create a pose in 3D space. How can you learn from vectors, then?

Step 2

Take something and analyze it. There are two ways of thinking you can use it now (I will use glass as an example):

  1. The glass is made of a rectangle, and then there is a flat triangle under it, a very long line, and a flat triangle.
  2. The glass is made of an oblong container with a round section where the wine is poured. The upper part of the container can be bent inwards to prevent the blisters from slipping. The bottom of the bowl melts slowly into a thick layer. The leg then melts into a circular base.

What do you think? Which method best describes the essence of glass? The first one is faster and more significant when you start your drawing journey, but it will only allow you to draw this scenario. You may try to go into the 3D world, learn to look, add movement, and suddenly it turns out that you don’t know how to draw glass.

Step 3

Another example is anatomy. You can read body curves in one place, but it does not tell you anything about what the same body looks like when you run/sit/fight. The simple “why” has never been so powerful. Why does this part explode? What is it used for? Why is it long/short? Why is this part connected to another one?

Step 4

What Should You Exercise?

  1. Stop imagining the lines you see. Try to understand the whole thing. If you understand why it was designed and designed in this way, you will be able to fix it and create something that belongs to you without breaking the rules.
  2. Analyze things or do not draw. In the queue, on the bus, you wait for someone to turn around and ask yourself: why does it look like this? What is your purpose? With every “why” answer, you extend a great base of vector information to your head. You will be amazed at how helpful it is!

Now You Are Ready to Draw!

If you follow the tutorial carefully, you should be able to follow the middle tutorial ideally after some practice. Although these beginner drawing exercises may seem tedious, they are essential and need to be studied. If you have tried them and they seem insignificant, well done, you are ready! But if you have some problems, it is best to stop and practice until you overcome them.
