How To Draw Anime Facial Hair – Beards and Mustaches

Draw Anime Facial Hair – This tutorial looks at drawing anime facial hair, including beards, mustaches, and sideburns. Like other facial features, a specific facial hairstyle can help emphasize a particular type of character.

Examples of Anime Face Painting Hair

There are many ways to paint anime or manga facial hair. This lesson goes beyond some basic and simple examples. It can be beneficial if you are a beginner.

Normal Facial Hair Structure

Before painting a beard or mustache, it is good to have a complete understanding of the shape of facial hair.

Although facial hair may vary in shape for this study, we will look at a prevalent example. Like the picture above, facial hair is usually grown from the sides to the hair on the cheeks. Then the hair falls out from the nose and bends over the upper lip. The hair then grows down to form the lower lip down to the chin, but openings on each side of the lips to the floor.

If you want to paint a character who looks like he has not shaved in a few days but does not have a beard or mustache, he starts by painting the hair structure described above and then puts a little shade in place. You do not need a visible frame around the shape as the hair is too short to be defined, but you can draw very few short hairs.

Drawing a Beard Full of Anime

Drawing a full beard begins with removing the perfect shape of the hair, as described in the previous example. Then you can somehow draw the hair down and finally draw some bumps on the edges. Draw clumps facing the opposite side to make them look more natural.

This type of facial hair would be a good fit for a character who has been out in the wilderness for a while away from civilization.

Drawing Anime Beard With Mustaches and Sideburns

This type of facial hair is similar to the previous model but with shaved cheeks and shorter in length. It can give the character a lot of “manhood” but at the same time give it a more “sophisticated” look.

To paint this type of facial hair, you can also paint the general shape first (but with the cheeks shaved) and then paint down. Draw a few small clumps at the end.

Drawing Anime Beard and Mustache

This type of beard and mustache often gives the character a sophisticated look like a doctor or a scientist.

I am drawing this type of facial hair again, as in previous examples, starting with the perfect shape of the upper part of the hair and the project is down.

Drawing Anime Beard With Sideburns

The side beard can give the character an extra “spiritual look” as a monk as an example.

To paint this type of hair, you can leave the beard and cheeks “blank.” Draw sideburns connected to the beard and the part where the facial hair grows from the chin.

Drawing Anime Goatee

The scapegoat is easy to draw as it is long fur under the chin. In anime and manga, it can often be seen in the characters of the “criminal” genre.

To draw a goat in the example above, draw hair that grows down from the lower lip but does not touch (leave a good spot) and spread out as they fall. Draw light lumps at the end.

Drawing Anime Mustache

When it comes to anime mustaches and manga like the above example, they are rare, but you can see some of the characters in retro-style themes.

To paint this mustache, simply draw it under the nose and leave a space between the mouth (this is where the upper lip can be, but the lips are usually not drawn in anime). And hair. If you want a mustache with long hair, then you can even cover your mouth completely.

Conclusion

Anime facial hair is not very difficult to paint, but just like natural hair, there are countless variations. This tutorial offers some of the basics, but if you need more help, you can always check out the work of other artists and real hair examples.
